Why does La Cantine à domicile exist?

When the pandemic struck, a sense of urgency emerged: how could seniors continue to eat healthily, without leaving their homes?

But as Thibaud reminds us, the need existed long before.

"We launched La Cantine à domicile during the pandemic, to support people who wanted to stay at home because of confinement. But even before then, we were seeing strong demand for "storable", i.e. frozen, home-delivered meals. Solutions did exist, but they were not very accessible to the most economically vulnerable.

We said to ourselves: "We've managed to make meals accessible to children with La Cantine dans les écoles. Couldn't we do the same thing for seniors, in their own homes?"

This is how the La Cantine à domicile program was born.

How does it work?

In addition to being accessible to the general public, the program brings together over a hundred partners who can refer the most vulnerable people to its social pricing component. Through this component, beneficiaries can access nutritious meals at a fraction of the cost, i.e. less than $2 per meal, depending on their situation.

Every week, hundreds of people are able to feed themselves thanks to La Cantine à domicile. But in reality, it's thousands who need it.
