La Cantine à domicile is coming to the Capitale-Nationale: more than 285,000 households will be able to receive affordable meals delivered to their homes

Montreal, June 17, 2026 – La Cantine pour tous announces the expansion of its La Cantine à domicile program in the Capitale-Nationale region. Thanks to the participation of two community-based social economy organizations, La Baratte and the Coopérative de solidarité de services à domicile de Québec, more than 285,000 households will now have access to affordable frozen meals delivered to their homes.

Operating in the Greater Montreal area for over six years, the La Cantine à domicile program makes it easy to order meals prepared by certified social economy organizations, either online or by phone. Originally designed to support seniors, it helps them maintain their independence and stay in their own homes, while also being accessible to anyone who wants to simplify meal planning.

The needs associated with an aging population and home care are very real, and we believe that access to affordable, high-quality meals is one of the practical solutions that allow people to stay in their homes longer, in their familiar surroundings,” said Benoist de Peyrelongue, Chairman of the Board of Directors of La Cantine pour tous.

A concrete solution to help older adults continue living at home

The program’s launch in the Capitale-Nationale region comes at a time when helping seniors remain in their own homes is a top priority for the health and social services network.

La Cantine à domicile includes, in particular, a social pricing component for people aged 55 and older who are economically vulnerable. Referred by professionals in the health care, social services, or community sectors, these individuals can receive meals at reduced prices to promote their food security and help them remain in their own homes.

The aging population is one of the major challenges of the coming years. In the Capitale-Nationale region, nearly 40,000 seniors living at home report needing assistance with certain activities of daily living. In this context, access to affordable and nutritious meals is a key factor in supporting independence, food security, and the ability of the most vulnerable individuals to remain in their own homes.

A model that has already proven itself

Since its launch in 2020, La Cantine à domicile has made it possible to:

• more than 500,000 meals delivered;
• nearly 5,000 people reached;
• a presence in several regions of Quebec;
• More than 175 representatives have been mobilized across the health, social services, and community sectors.

The expansion into the Capitale-Nationale region marks an important step in the program’s development across Quebec.

“This expansion into the Capitale-Nationale region demonstrates that it is possible to address major social challenges by drawing on the expertise of social economy enterprises already present in communities. Together, we are building a model that improves access to food while strengthening local services for seniors,” adds Thibaud Liné, Executive Director of La Cantine pour tous.

Two partners deeply rooted in their communities

The program's success depends on the strength of the social economy network and the expertise of two partners who are well-regarded in their communities.

Already a member of the La Cantine dans les écoles program, La Baratte is enhancing its service offerings by now also participating in La Cantine à domicile.

The Québec Home Care Solidarity Cooperative, for its part, draws on its expertise in working with seniors, people with limited mobility, and family caregivers to promote their independence and quality of life.

The program’s rollout in the Capitale-Nationale region will continue as new local catering partners are brought on board, allowing for a gradual expansion of the service’s offerings and coverage.

Orders can already be placed via the platform La Cantine à domicile or by phone for La Baratte, and will soon be available for the Coopérative de solidarité de services à domicile de Québec.
