"At least one complete meal a day" for her children!

Much more than a simple meal, Visit School canteens preserve the dignity of the families who benefit from them.

We'd like to share with you a spontaneous testimonial from Hélène, mother of Jules, who called our customer service department this week for support with her order and took the opportunity to express her satisfaction. Her story is a perfect illustration of how our program empowers parents.

"I think it's the best organization ever!

Hélène, who benefits from the La Cantine dans les écoles program for her son, is our best ambassador. She is particularly touched by the program's impact on families in precarious situations, such as single mothers with several children experiencing food insecurity. She emphasizes the value of the accessibility made possible by social pricing:

"I capote that a single mom with 3 kids can pay $3 a day if that's all she can afford and her kids are going to get a full meal, at least one , in a day."

This access to healthy meals, regardless of family income, is essential to our mission.

The power of dignity

For Hélène, the heart of the program lies in the respect and autonomy of families. The ability to pay, even a token sum, is fundamental.

"It's really there, the mission is noble and I find it brings dignity to parents who don't have a lot of money, but at least they're paying for their meals-there's a notion of dignity there."

La Cantine pour tous's social economy model makes this dignity possible. Parents who are able to pay more than the $1 minimum contribute directly to providing the same minimum amount to families who need it most. By 2024, the average price paid by parents in our 141 schools would cover half the cost of meals, proof that our model fosters a movement of solidarity.

Jules' mom is so convinced of the opportunity La Cantine pour tous offers to support her community that she has chosen to further support our mission. Hélène is now proudly one of our monthly donors, a high-impact gesture for which we are deeply grateful.

This testimonial reminds us that thanks to you, our donors, La Cantine pour tous does much more than fight hunger:you offer hope and dignityto thousands of Quebec families.
