La Cantine dans les écoles: healthy, balanced meals at low prices, delivered directly to elementary schools

The goal behind La Cantine dans les écoles is to ensure that children can learn on a full stomach, regardless of their parents’ financial situation.

+ 45,000

More than 45,000 children have access to La Cantine dans les écoles’ meals

A program that breaks down economic barriers and helps our children’s future

La Cantine dans les écoles offers children greater food security, without stigma. Our flexible pricing system allows parents to pay anonymously according to their means (minimum price $1; suggested price $6). This means that everyone is free to pay whatever amount they wish, with no conditions or justification required. The organizations in charge of catering receive compensation from La Cantine pour tous to cover their expenses.

Before being matched with a school in their region, each member organization is certified by La Cantine pour tous, which ensures compliance with best practices in food production.

This is made possible by the generosity of our funders, financial partners and donors.

Improved academic performance

Studies show a correlation between students’ academic success and the quality of their diet.

A healthy investment for all

Every dollar invested in a universal school feeding program returns $3 to $10 in value, thanks in part to reduced costs associated with health problems in adulthood.

The last country

Canada is the last of the G7 countries to adopt a school food policy, which it must now implement to ensure food security in our schools.

Participating schools

All parents at participating schools can order delicious, nutritionist-approved meals for the days of their choice, and pay what they can (minimum $1; suggested price $6).

Who can benefit from the program?

"In addition to offering affordable, healthy meals, you introduce kids to foods that I can't afford to buy. My 5-year-old came home from school the other day saying he loved Brussels sprouts! I sincerely hope that other schools will be able to take advantage of this wonderful program."

Parent from École Sacré-Coeur (Québec), 2024

"If it hadn't been $1, I wouldn't have been able to pay for it... La Cantine pour tous gives me a chance to provide food to my children. If I were packing lunches, I wouldn't be able to make such good meals. It's hard to get a full grocery shop, even with food banks. I'm alone with three kids."

"Students are all equal and that's what we love about it!"

Christian Faucher, Principal at École Sacré-Coeur (Québec), 2024

"La Cantine pour tous helps us save money. It allows me to buy meals for my children every day of the month. When I pay $1, it's a great relief, because my medical situation doesn't allow me to work and I have 3 children. Thanks to La Cantine pour tous, I can rest a little. It also helps my children discover new meals."

Anonymous Mom, 2023

"Thank you for being so wonderful. As a parent who cares about what our little ones eat, I love the food you offer and, more importantly, I love that they love it AND that you really care. That makes me love you even more!"

Anonymous parent, 2024

“Having a full stomach sets the stage for successful learning, so for us, it’s important that everyone has the chance to enjoy a healthy, complete, and accessible meal at school.”

Marie-Soleil Jacques, Vice Principal, École de L'Orée-du-Parc (Montréal), 2023
